A video clip, shared on multiple social media channels like SgShare and LiveLeak, shows a segment on Beijing Television's news where a man calls his elder brother on his phone.
The latter was one of the 239 on board the flight which mysteriously disappeared.
According to The Straits Times, the man who did not give his name, spoke to reporters at a Malaysia Airlines briefing in Beijing. He claimed that he made a total of three calls, but no one answered.
This sparked many speculations, that they were on land and had not crashed in the sea. Others held higher hopes that they were still alive.
